About the Apex PCB

Apex is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Shadow220108, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 17.8 × 21 mm, with 51 components from 29 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q16JVSS, TOREX XC6802A42XMR-G and RS3236-3.3YUTDN4. By type, the board carries 22 capacitors, 13 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 diodes, 3 connectors and 2 switches.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and power & battery designs in this gallery.

A compact devboard running on RP2040

( Credits to the Seed Studio for making this, since my board is inspired on the Xiao, I have used the pinout provided by them )

While using the Seed Studio Xiao RP2040 for one of my projects, I realised it doesn't have LiPo support and I couldn't use it, unfortunately I had to use a different MCU then, but now I designed one with the simplicity of RP2040 with being able to charge LiPo

Apex: common questions

What microcontroller does the Apex use?

The Apex is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Apex PCB?

The Apex measures 17.8 × 21 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Apex?

51 components, from 29 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Apex design files?

From the Shadow220108/apex repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Apex design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Shadow220108. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Apex without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
