From the project

A full 100% ISO 104 keyboard highly advanced with haptic and screen upgrade functionality

NexType X1 is my custom full size (104 key) wireless mechanical keyboard, built around a Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840.

so basicaly i wanted a full size board that could do bluetooth and normal usb, but i also wanted to go way further than just switches on a PCB.. per-key RGB, haptics, a media knob, battery tracking, 3 bluetooth profiles, a proper 4 layer board and a fully custom case with a screwless underside. i designed the electronics in kicad, the whole case in fusion 360 and the firmware in ZMK/zephyr, which turned into a much bigger rabbit hole than expected lol

NexType-X1: common questions

What microcontroller does the NexType-X1 use?

The NexType-X1 is built around the Seeeduino XIAO nRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the NexType-X1 PCB?

The NexType-X1 measures 435.6 × 141.2 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the NexType-X1?

348 components, from 135 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the NexType-X1 design files?

From the shahalthamas/NexType-X1 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the NexType-X1 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with shahalthamas. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the NexType-X1 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
