About the Esp8266-temp proto PCB

Esp8266-temp proto is an open source ESP32 PCB design by ShawnHymel, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 35.6 × 50.8 mm, with 26 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AP2112K-3.3TRG1 and MCP9808-E/MS. By type, the board carries 13 resistors, 4 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the sensors, iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

ESP8266 Temperature Sensor Prototype ====================================

ESP8266 Temperature Sensor Prototype ====================================

This is a quick prototype designed for the Bantam Tools Desktop PCB Milling Machine. It uses an ESP8266-WROOM-02 module connected to an MCP9808 temperature sensor. It will run off a single-cell LiPo battery, but there is no protection, undervoltage detection, or charge circuitry onboard. The idea is simple: read from temperature sensor and post to a server at regular intervals. It should work as a simple, IoT Temperature Sensor Throwie.

Esp8266-temp proto: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp8266-temp proto use?

The Esp8266-temp proto is built around the ESP-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp8266-temp proto PCB?

The Esp8266-temp proto measures 35.6 × 50.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp8266-temp proto?

26 components, from 15 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp8266-temp proto design files?

From the ShawnHymel/esp8266-temp-proto repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp8266-temp proto design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ShawnHymel. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Esp8266-temp proto without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
