About the Radio-86rk PCB

Radio-86rk is an open source PCB design by skiselev, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 266.7 × 203.2 mm, with 190 components from 127 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 8080A/КР580ВМ80А, 8224/КР580ГФ24, 8251A/КР580ВВ51А, 8253/КР580ВИ53 and 8255A/КР580ВВ55А. By type, the board carries 68 switches, 44 capacitors, 27 ICs, 19 resistors, 11 diodes and 7 connectors.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

Re-make of the Soviet Ham Radio computer published in Radio Magazine in 1986

The goal of the original design was to create a computer that can be built relatively easily and cheaply using commonly available components. Therefore it included several short-cuts. For example it didn't use 8228 bus controller. Instead, it uses /WR and DBIN CPU signals instead to distinguish between write and read CPU cycles. Since the system doesn't decode I/O control signals, all the I/O devices are memory mapped. Another optimization is the use of DMA controller for both supplying the data to the CRT controller and for refreshing DRAMs. The system didn't support interrupts. The sound…
