About the Cognicity floodsensor PCB

Cognicity floodsensor is an open source STM32 PCB design by smart-facility, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 66 × 57 mm, with 57 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32L031F4, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the CAT24C32, DMMT5401 and HT7333. By type, the board carries 14 connectors, 13 resistors, 11 capacitors, 5 ICs, 5 transistors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the sensors and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Cognicity flood sensor example code

This printed circuit board design implements low-power measurement gathering for the cognicity flood sensor. It conforms to the Raspberry Pi HAT specification.

The design was created in KiCad 4.0.2. Gerbers can be found in the plot/ subdirectory.

The HAT can be configured in one of two ways - direct, Pi-only operation: the Pi is wired to the sensors and there is no power control - microcontroller-directed: the microcontroller makes and caches sensor observations, and is responsible for controlling power to the Pi and sensors

Cognicity floodsensor: common questions

What microcontroller does the Cognicity floodsensor use?

The Cognicity floodsensor is built around the STM32L031F4, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Cognicity floodsensor PCB?

The Cognicity floodsensor measures 66 × 57 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Cognicity floodsensor?

57 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Cognicity floodsensor design files?

From the smart-facility/cognicity-floodsensor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Cognicity floodsensor design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which smart-facility chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Cognicity floodsensor without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
