About the MP3player PCB

MP3player is an open source STM32 PCB design by sneakylizard123-4, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board, with 238 components from 66 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the DS3231M, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the TPS7A4701XRGW, ISL29035, LSM6DSL, BME680 and CS43131-CNZR. By type, the board carries 125 capacitors, 80 diodes, 11 resistors, 7 ICs, 4 crystals and 4 connectors.

It belongs with the audio, displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Why the STM32H743: it has the RAM to buffer audio enough peripherals that almost every feature ended up on its own bus and 480MHz means I never have to care about optimization.

Working on splitting this into two boards. The main board keeps the MCU, SD card, buttons, and OLED; the audio/power board takes the DAC, radio, microphone, charging, and the analog rails. It's early in the split: the single-board layout below is what's designed so far, and I'm still shuffling what goes where between the two. Might need to fix power stage to make it a 1-sided board

The KiCad project lives in the sneakylizard123-4/MP3player repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

MP3player: common questions

What microcontroller does the MP3player use?

The MP3player is built around the DS3231M, from the STM32 family.

How big is the MP3player PCB?

The MP3player has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MP3player?

238 components, from 66 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MP3player design files?

From the sneakylizard123-4/MP3player repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MP3player design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sneakylizard123-4. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the MP3player without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
