About the Femto satellite PCB

Femto satellite is an open source Microchip SAM PCB design by spel-uchile, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 103.1 × 54 mm, with 38 components from 28 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SAMD21E, from the Microchip SAM family. Other key parts include the AP7215-33YG-13, AV4524, LP38693MP-5.0, TRH-G2 and NRF24L01_Breakout. By type, the board carries 10 capacitors, 8 ICs, 6 resistors, 3 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the rf & radio designs in this gallery.

Femto satellite: common questions

What microcontroller does the Femto satellite use?

The Femto satellite is built around the SAMD21E, from the Microchip SAM family.

How big is the Femto satellite PCB?

The Femto satellite measures 103.1 × 54 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Femto satellite?

38 components, from 28 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Femto satellite design files?

From the spel-uchile/Femto-satellite repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Femto satellite design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which spel-uchile chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Femto satellite without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Microchip SAM firmware against it before you order a PCB.
