About the Fracture PCB

Fracture is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Sudo-Aju, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 277.7 × 102.6 mm, with 100 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 50 switches, 48 diodes and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

A keyboard that can break

A Bluetooth Powered 48-Key Split Keyboard

Fracture is a wireless 48-key split mechanical keyboard built around modularity, portability, and aesthetics.

Unlike traditional keyboards, Fracture is designed to literally seperate into two halves, giving users a more ergonomic typing expereience while creating a visually unique "fractured" appearance.

Built using the Seed Studio XIAO nRF52840, Kailh Choc Switches, and low-profile keycaps, Fracture blends minimalism with functionaly in a compact wireless setup.

Fracture: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fracture use?

The Fracture is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Fracture PCB?

The Fracture measures 277.7 × 102.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fracture?

100 components, from 6 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fracture design files?

From the Sudo-Aju/Fracture repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fracture design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Sudo-Aju. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Fracture without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
