About the VX-Solenoid-Engine PCB

VX-Solenoid-Engine is an open source ESP32 PCB design by SunritHazra, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 120 × 80 mm, with 33 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the TC4427xOA. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 7 connectors, 6 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 transistors and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

VX Solenoid Engine is a long-term experimental electromechanical research program focused on solenoid-based actuation and mechanical timing. V1 is a completed working prototype using a solenoid-driven piston with a crank and flywheel, and V2 represents the next planned stage of development.

The project "V2 Solenoid Engine" is the second project of the long-term vision of "VX Solenoid Engine", which aims to build progressive solenoid engines with real engineering and proper planning. I have designed and completed the V1 Solenoid Engine before which was the prototype (you can find this in the first journal entry), and I had a partially designed a V10 Solenoid Engine with the help of an engineer from the United Kingdom (UK).

VX-Solenoid-Engine: common questions

What microcontroller does the VX-Solenoid-Engine use?

The VX-Solenoid-Engine is built around the ESP32-DEVKIT-V1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the VX-Solenoid-Engine PCB?

The VX-Solenoid-Engine measures 120 × 80 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.67 mm thick.

How many components are on the VX-Solenoid-Engine?

33 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the VX-Solenoid-Engine design files?

From the SunritHazra/VX-Solenoid-Engine repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the VX-Solenoid-Engine design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with SunritHazra. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the VX-Solenoid-Engine without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
