About the Papertape spacer PCB

Papertape spacer is an open source PCB design by Supermagnum, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50.8 × 43.2 mm, with 4 components from 4 distinct parts.

It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

This little manual paper tape reader is easy to build and operate. It connects to any modern computer via USB, and performs well with all kinds of 5 to 8 bit paper tape, including translucent paper materials.

Repository: github.com/Supermagnum/paper-tape

Design and documentation by Jürgen Müller / e-basteln. This repository contains the firmware, PCB design files, and manufacturing data for the manual optical paper tape reader described on the e-basteln Paper Tape Reader pages.

PCB files converted to KiCad. Note that the main board and included spacer template PCBs use 1.6 mm thickness. The Gerber files in gerbers/papertapespacer/ are for those 1.6 mm templates** (identifiable by their larger aperture holes), used as alignment guides during assembly.

Papertape spacer: common questions

How big is the Papertape spacer PCB?

The Papertape spacer measures 50.8 × 43.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Papertape spacer?

4 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Papertape spacer design files?

From the Supermagnum/paper-tape repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Papertape spacer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Supermagnum. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
