About the BE6502 Mega Adapter PCB

BE6502 Mega Adapter is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.1 × 99.1 mm, with 20 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Mega2560_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 4 modules, 4 resistors, 3 connectors, 3 switches, 3 capacitors and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

A PCB being made while watching Ben Eaters "Build a 6502 computer" video series. Includes the computer itself, a standalone slow clock and an Arduino Mega shield for the bus monitor sketch..

Ben Eater has been a huge inspiration for many getting into building computers using basic electronic building blocks, his videos are truly excellent and it is no wonder he's often referred to as the Bob Ross of Breadboards! His latest project is building a 6502 computer on a breadboard, a video series that I'm sure will also inspire a lot of new users to the art of building stuff with the 6502! Check out the main README for an overview of all the modules available to the BE6502 computer.

BE6502 Mega Adapter: common questions

What microcontroller does the BE6502 Mega Adapter use?

The BE6502 Mega Adapter is built around the Arduino_Mega2560_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the BE6502 Mega Adapter PCB?

The BE6502 Mega Adapter measures 99.1 × 99.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BE6502 Mega Adapter?

20 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BE6502 Mega Adapter design files?

From the tebl/BE6502-Build-a-65c02-computer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BE6502 Mega Adapter design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-1.2 license, which tebl chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the BE6502 Mega Adapter without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
