About the C64-Modulator-Replacement PCB

C64-Modulator-Replacement is an open source PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63.5 × 63.4 mm, with 40 components from 27 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the LM7805. By type, the board carries 13 connectors, 10 resistors, 7 capacitors, 3 jumpers, 2 transistors and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the retro computing and audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

A simple modulator replacement for Commodore 64s with "longboards", complements my Lumafix version as well adding an audio connector for second SID.

Based on the C64 RF-modulator mod by Zero-X / OMS, this adapts those schematics to create a complete replacement for the original modulator including a few changes of my own. A nice writeup and the my original inspiration for making this version if it came from a blog post on My Diy Blog (not actually my blog, it's just called that).

The modulator replacement replaces the original circuit, with the original responsible for boosting the output from the VIC-chip and generating composite video, S-Video and the RF-signal. The replacement removes the old RF-signal output as well as the noise it…
