About the ZX Cartridge 1983 PCB

ZX Cartridge 1983 is an open source PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 57.9 × 71.1 mm, with 18 components from 11 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 27C020 and MC14495P1. By type, the board carries 5 resistors, 4 modules, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors, 1 connector and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

An old-school remake of the ZX Interface 2 with some modern tweaks - mainly by integrating bank switching into the interface itself. Everything done with basic logic chips and components, no magic black boxes to be found anywhere!

True to form, I didn't simply want to build a 16K cartridge - so I sprinkled a little bit of extra feature creep upon it. I figured that I'd look into being able to use even larger EEPROMs that what I'd used so far, with the 27C020 able to hold 16 of these images - pretty extreme when considering that the system only had 10 officially released titles. There are a few cassette conversions that can be used as well, good enough to fill a couple of them. With 16 images possible combinations I needed a way to choose between them, cheap as I am the solution became a 4 position DIP-switch. Just…
