About the Raspberry PI power switch PCB

Raspberry PI power switch is an open source TI MSP430/CC PCB design by terjeio, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 40 mm, with 21 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the MSP430G2553-20, from the TI MSP430/CC family. Other key parts include the MIC5209 3V3. By type, the board carries 9 connectors, 3 capacitors, 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 transistor and 1 relay.

It belongs with the rf & radio and audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Multimedia center with DAB/FM radio

High quality (IMO) pre-amp board with I2C control of inputs and VCA based volume control.

5 line inputs, one may be fitted with an internal RIAA-preamp (phono, for moving magnet cartridges). 2 line outputs with old-style tape copy function and post listening possible.

Power amplifier on/off switching via inbuilt relay river.

Custom Raspberry PI power switch with PC-style startup/shutdown, may be controlled over I2C or from a front panel button. Has "breakout" socket for internal USB HDD.

Raspberry PI power switch: common questions

What microcontroller does the Raspberry PI power switch use?

The Raspberry PI power switch is built around the MSP430G2553-20, from the TI MSP430/CC family.

How big is the Raspberry PI power switch PCB?

The Raspberry PI power switch measures 40 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Raspberry PI power switch?

21 components, from 21 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Raspberry PI power switch design files?

From the terjeio/MultimediaCenter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Raspberry PI power switch design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with terjeio. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Raspberry PI power switch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug TI MSP430/CC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
