About the Sand-Plotter PCB
Sand-Plotter is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by tim-callinan, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 15 components from 10 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ARDUINO_UNO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TMC2208_SILENTSTEPSTICK. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 4 jumpers, 3 ICs and 1 capacitor.
It belongs with the robotics & motion and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

We were trying to make a new low-cost CNC machine for makers and hobbyist.
We found that it is not hard to design a simple aluminum structure with some 3d printed parts, using open software like FreeCAD.
But surprising, there are not many options for electronics part. And we didn’t find any open source shield for Arduino. Maybe we are wrong! But with a quick search, we didn't find anything.

Sand-Plotter: common questions
What microcontroller does the Sand-Plotter use?
The Sand-Plotter is built around the ARDUINO_UNO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family.
How big is the Sand-Plotter PCB?
The Sand-Plotter measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 2.63 mm thick.
How many components are on the Sand-Plotter?
15 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Sand-Plotter design files?
From the tim-callinan/Sand-Plotter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Sand-Plotter design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tim-callinan. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Sand-Plotter without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
