About the Esp32-modbus serial adapter PCB

Esp32-modbus serial adapter is an open source ESP32 PCB design by tomasmcguinness, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 27.9 × 41.7 mm, with 22 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C6-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MAX3485 and AP2112K-3.3. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 6 capacitors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

The hardware folder contains a KiCad PCB design, designed around the ESP32-C6-MINI-1. Both the antenna and non-antenna (U1) versions will work here due to the location of the ESP32.

At present, these is one Matter example available. I plan on adding more now.

The first device supported by this project is the Eastron SDM120M Single Phase Energy Meter

The readings from this device will be exposed using as a Matter Electrical Sensor Device Type.

Esp32-modbus serial adapter: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp32-modbus serial adapter use?

The Esp32-modbus serial adapter is built around the ESP32-C6-MINI-1, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp32-modbus serial adapter PCB?

The Esp32-modbus serial adapter measures 27.9 × 41.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp32-modbus serial adapter?

22 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp32-modbus serial adapter design files?

From the tomasmcguinness/esp32-modbus-serial-adapter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp32-modbus serial adapter design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with tomasmcguinness. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Esp32-modbus serial adapter without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
