About the MP3-Player PCB

MP3-Player is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by tomstraka01-git, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70.5 × 76.6 mm, with 22 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico_W, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 7 resistors, 5 switches, 4 connectors, 3 capacitors, 1 module and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the audio and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A dyi MP3 player that can play sounds stored on a micro sd card

I used a custom PCB, which takes power from a 3.7 Li-Po 450 mah (the battery should last for few hours) and passes it through a fast fuse for short circuit protection and diode for reverse connection protection. Then it goes to the rasberry pi pico 2 WH, which converts the power to stable 3.3V. The MCU reads the micro sd card reader module through spi, and then plays the song into the PCM5102A. It also displays all the info to the oled screen, and checks the five buttons for input. The five buttons have these features: - Volume Down - Volume Up - Previous Song - Next Song - Play/Pause

MP3-Player: common questions

What microcontroller does the MP3-Player use?

The MP3-Player is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico_W, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the MP3-Player PCB?

The MP3-Player measures 70.5 × 76.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MP3-Player?

22 components, from 12 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MP3-Player design files?

From the tomstraka01-git/MP3-Player repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MP3-Player design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which tomstraka01-git chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MP3-Player without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
