About the Sonibox PCB

Sonibox is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by trappitsch, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 100 × 110 mm, with 16 components from 8 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the DFR0299. By type, the board carries 7 connectors, 6 resistors, 1 IC, 1 module and 1 diode.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

From the project

Music box

A music box. Plays music from a specific folder when an RFID tag is placed on the reader. If you want to build this, e.g., for your kid, I highly recommend to add more than 5 songs to any given playlist... or add more later ;)

- Raspberry Pi Pico 2040 - An MFRC522 RFID reader, e.g., this one - DFRobot Mini MP3 player and a microSD card with music - Speaker - Battery pack with charging circuit - Three triangle buttons - USB C panel mount to charge battery from outside - Panel mount push button soldered to battery On/Off switch for external control - Standoffs, screws, heat inserts, wires. -…

Sonibox: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sonibox use?

The Sonibox is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Sonibox PCB?

The Sonibox measures 100 × 110 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Sonibox?

16 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sonibox design files?

From the trappitsch/sonibox repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sonibox design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which trappitsch chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Sonibox without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
