About the ESP32-Sensing-Device PCB

ESP32-Sensing-Device is an open source ESP32 PCB design by turgu1, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 29.9 × 28.6 mm, with 38 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the NDS356AP, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the ESP32-WROOM-32 and AMS1117-3.3. By type, the board carries 16 resistors, 7 connectors, 5 capacitors, 4 diodes, 2 ICs and 2 transistors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and sensors designs in this gallery.

Received the V2.0 PCBs yesterday. First modifications (Not shown on the schematic):

- Led resistors (R13, R16): 1 kOhms instead of 220 Ohms (the LEDs are way too bright). - Thermistor 10 kOhms resistor R11 hooked to GPIO25 instead of 3.3V using a wire: To diminish thermistor heath effect on reading values, the GPIO25 is put high only at thermistor read time.

The thermistor is only used when the device is connected to an external source of power: to get an accurate 3.3v source for thermistor read-outs.

ESP32-Sensing-Device: common questions

What microcontroller does the ESP32-Sensing-Device use?

The ESP32-Sensing-Device is built around the NDS356AP, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the ESP32-Sensing-Device PCB?

The ESP32-Sensing-Device measures 29.9 × 28.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ESP32-Sensing-Device?

38 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ESP32-Sensing-Device design files?

From the turgu1/ESP32-Sensing-Device repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ESP32-Sensing-Device design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which turgu1 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ESP32-Sensing-Device without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
