About the 66x66 PCB

66x66 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by UC-Aerospace, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 66 × 66 mm, with 34 components from 27 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q128JVSIQ and C6186. By type, the board carries 10 resistors, 7 test points, 5 connectors, 3 ICs, 3 capacitors and 1 crystal.

(50mm x 50mm) This shows it's possible to design a 2-layer 50mm x 50mm board to fit the minimum rocket tube diameter of 50mm. Made by Grayson. This is the one we have ordered and will be avalible to pass around.

~~(66mm x 66mm) This 2-layer example board is slightly bigger but small enough to fit in an L2 rocket. Made by Kaden.~~ Unfortunatly this board has some issues at the moment, we might look into fixing it. Left for now as it shows a different general approach.

66x66: common questions

What microcontroller does the 66x66 use?

The 66x66 is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the 66x66 PCB?

The 66x66 measures 66 × 66 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the 66x66?

34 components, from 27 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the 66x66 design files?

From the UC-Aerospace/Electrical-Tut-24 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the 66x66 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with UC-Aerospace. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the 66x66 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
