About the QuadcopterSystem PCB

QuadcopterSystem is an open source STM32 PCB design by vedderb, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 67 × 50 mm, with 91 components from 44 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F40X_LQFP100, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the MCP16311/2, NCP1117ST33T3G, CC2520, SN65HVD232 and MPU9150. By type, the board carries 41 capacitors, 20 connectors, 16 resistors, 6 ICs, 3 diodes and 2 crystals.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

From the project

The hardware and software for our quadcopter system

This is the source code and hardware design for a quadcopter system that was developed at SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden in the department of electronics as a demonstrator within the EU Projects KARYON and PROWESS.

Figure 1 shows an overview of the quadcopter system and how everything is connected.

* Quadcopters - We have used up to 4 quadcopters simultaneously.

QuadcopterSystem: common questions

What microcontroller does the QuadcopterSystem use?

The QuadcopterSystem is built around the STM32F40X_LQFP100, from the STM32 family.

How big is the QuadcopterSystem PCB?

The QuadcopterSystem measures 67 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the QuadcopterSystem?

91 components, from 44 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the QuadcopterSystem design files?

From the vedderb/QuadcopterSystem repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the QuadcopterSystem design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which vedderb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the QuadcopterSystem without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
