About the Eeprom burner PCB

Eeprom burner is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Velko, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68.6 × 53.3 mm, with 22 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC595, 28C256 and 28C256J. By type, the board carries 12 connectors, 5 capacitors, 4 ICs and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

Homebrew 8-bit CPU

After watching [series of videos][eater-net-8bit] by Ben Eater building an 8-bit computer from scratch, I was hooked. Various thoughts for improvements and experiments was running through my mind. But first I have to build one. Improvements will come later. Whom am I kidding? I'll never be able to build an exact replica, I'll incorporate improvements as I go.

Eeprom burner: common questions

What microcontroller does the Eeprom burner use?

The Eeprom burner is built around the Arduino_1pin, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Eeprom burner PCB?

The Eeprom burner measures 68.6 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Eeprom burner?

22 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Eeprom burner design files?

From the Velko/8-bit-CPU repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Eeprom burner design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Velko chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Eeprom burner without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
