About the Gate controller PCB

Gate controller is an open source ESP32 PCB design by weswitt, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 108 × 83 mm, with 33 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-DEVKITC-32U, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the R-78E3.3-1.0, FOD852 and R-78E5.0-1.0. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 7 connectors, 6 ICs, 4 capacitors, 3 relays and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Liftmaster gate controller board

This project is a PCB design for controlling a Liftmaster gate operator from Home Assistant.

The PCB design was done in KiCad 8.0, which is an open source electronic design tool. This project includes all of the KiCad project files so that you can modify the PCB if needed. I've also included a GERBER.ZIP file that can be used to simply have the PCB printed by someplace like JLPCB.

Gate controller: common questions

What microcontroller does the Gate controller use?

The Gate controller is built around the ESP32-DEVKITC-32U, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Gate controller PCB?

The Gate controller measures 108 × 83 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Gate controller?

33 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Gate controller design files?

From the weswitt/gate-controller repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Gate controller design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with weswitt. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Gate controller without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
