About the MiSTer-G3 PCB

MiSTer-G3 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by wickerwaka, published on GitHub under the LGPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 130 × 91.5 mm, with 31 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Nano_Every, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the TPA6021A4N, UDA1334A and LCC110. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 11 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 module.

It belongs with the audio designs in this gallery.

A MiSTer FPGA inside of an iMac G3

The iMacSTer is an early 2000's Apple iMac G3 with a MiSTer FPGA multisystem emulator inside of it. It is intended to be a non-destructive modification so the iMac can be returned to it's original state if desired. The mainboard, drives and IO panel are removed and replace by custom hardware, but no cuts are made to the chassis and the new hardware connects to existing internal connections without the need for any soldering. That being said, I can make no guarantees about the long term implications of these modifications. The speakers are being driven by a different amplifier than they were…

MiSTer-G3: common questions

What microcontroller does the MiSTer-G3 use?

The MiSTer-G3 is built around the Arduino_Nano_Every, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the MiSTer-G3 PCB?

The MiSTer-G3 measures 130 × 91.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MiSTer-G3?

31 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MiSTer-G3 design files?

From the wickerwaka/iMacSTer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MiSTer-G3 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its LGPL-3.0 license, which wickerwaka chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MiSTer-G3 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
