About the PicoROM - ROM Emulator PCB

PicoROM - ROM Emulator is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by wickerwaka, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 42.2 × 17.8 mm, with 53 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the C51118, C2843335, C548916, C2674123 and C163712. By type, the board carries 25 capacitors, 11 resistors, 9 ICs, 5 diodes, 2 connectors and 1 crystal.

From the project

An RP2040-based ROM emulator

Features - DIP-32 and DIP-28 form factors - Up to 2MBit (256KB) storage - 70ns access time - USB control with integrated firmware updates - Controllable reset pin

Fully assembled versions are available from my store.

- PicoROM Original (POG) — Original 32-pin design with a single tri-state reset pin (high, low, or high-impedance). Can be powered by USB or from the host board. - PicoROM 28 (P28) — 28-pin design with dual reset pins (one for high, one for low). Uses split power: the microcontroller is powered by USB or the host board, but external buffers are powered from the 5V input. This…

PicoROM - ROM Emulator: common questions

What microcontroller does the PicoROM - ROM Emulator use?

The PicoROM - ROM Emulator is built around the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the PicoROM - ROM Emulator PCB?

The PicoROM - ROM Emulator measures 42.2 × 17.8 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1.9448 mm thick.

How many components are on the PicoROM - ROM Emulator?

53 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the PicoROM - ROM Emulator design files?

From the wickerwaka/PicoROM repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the PicoROM - ROM Emulator design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which wickerwaka chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the PicoROM - ROM Emulator without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
