About the Maxpilot PCB

Maxpilot is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by zefr0g, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.1 × 38.1 mm, with 12 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the MOC3041M. By type, the board carries 3 ICs, 2 diodes, 2 resistors, 1 connector, 1 fuse and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-hardware WiFi fil pilote controller for French electric radiators — ESPHome + Home Assistant, ~12 € per board

Maxpilot: common questions

What microcontroller does the Maxpilot use?

The Maxpilot is built around the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Maxpilot PCB?

The Maxpilot measures 99.1 × 38.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Maxpilot?

12 components, from 9 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Maxpilot design files?

From the zefr0g/maxpilot repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Maxpilot design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which zefr0g chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Maxpilot without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
