About the ALU PCB

ALU is an open source PCB design by 89Mods, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 209.6 × 108 mm, with 82 components from 14 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74HCT04, 74HCT157, 74LS181, 74HCT08 and 74HCT32. By type, the board carries 50 ICs, 22 capacitors, 4 resistors, 3 connectors and 3 diodes.

From the project

Replica of the Launch Vehicle Digital Computer using 74-series logic

This LVDC is accurate to the original in the sense that it executes the same instructions that function the exact same, has the same memory layout (including special locations like HOP save and MQ) and can execute snippets of original LVDC code.

The differences are: - This computer is parallel and not bit-serial, and is also microcoded - It is implemented using 74-series logic and not discrete transistors (I wish to be able to take it with me to events, so it couldn’t get too big) - Everything hooked up to the PIO (IO read/write) instruction is my own invention, with the exception of the the…

ALU: common questions

How big is the ALU PCB?

The ALU measures 209.6 × 108 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ALU?

82 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ALU design files?

From the 89Mods/LVDC repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ALU design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which 89Mods chose for the repository.
