About the Colon3board PCB

Colon3board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ading2210, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 436.6 × 131.8 mm, with 211 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the MCP23008-xP. By type, the board carries 1 IC, 1 module and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A custom designed mechanical keyboard.

This is a custom designed mechanical keyboard, created for the the Hackpad event. It has a full sized 104 key layout, and a built in OLED display.

I designed this so I could get more practice with designing PCBs in KiCad and with modeling larger parts in Fusion 360. Also, I get to have a free keyboard in the end thanks to the grant from Hack Club.

This project is licensed under the GNU GPL v3.

Colon3board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Colon3board use?

The Colon3board is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Colon3board PCB?

The Colon3board measures 436.6 × 131.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Colon3board?

211 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Colon3board design files?

From the ading2210/colon3board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Colon3board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which ading2210 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Colon3board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
