About the Main Board

Main Board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by akreager, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board, with 37 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2350_60QFN, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the W25Q128JVS and NCP1117-3.3_SOT223. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 9 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 switches and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the test & measurement and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A bench test instrument for the 1991 GM R/V (square body) electronic instrument cluster. Built as part of a drivetrain swap into a 1985 C10 pickup — the cluster is being adapted from a 1991 R10 Suburban to replace the original cable-driven mechanical cluster.

The 1990–1991 full-size GM R/V Suburban, K5 Blazer, and Jimmy were the last of the square body platform and the first to use a fully electronic instrument cluster. The speedometer receives a 2,000 pulse-per-mile DC square wave signal from an external DRAC (Digital Ratio Adapter Controller) module rather than a mechanical cable. This…

Main Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Main Board use?

The Main Board is built around the RP2350_60QFN, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Main Board?

The Main Board has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Main Board?

37 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Main Board design files?

From the akreager/Instrument-Cluster-Tester repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Main Board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which akreager chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Main Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
