About the Esp32c3-sensor node PCB

Esp32c3-sensor node is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Alexden28, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 40 mm, with 24 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2SC6, AP2112K-3.3 and SHT40-AD1B. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 6 capacitors, 4 ICs, 2 switches, 1 connector and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the sensors, iot & wireless and usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

2-layer ESP32-C3 + SHT40 USB-C sensor node in KiCad 10, generated from Python, autorouted, ERC/DRC clean, with Gerbers/BOM/CPL/STEP

A 50 × 40 mm, 2-layer Wi-Fi/BLE temperature and humidity sensor board, powered and programmed over USB-C. It carries an ESP32-C3-WROOM-02 module and a Sensirion SHT40 sensor, plus USB-C input protection and a 3.3 V LDO. The schematic and the PCB are both generated from one Python description (scripts/design.py) through KiCad's file formats and pcbnew API, routed with Freerouting and verified with KiCad's own checks:

Esp32c3-sensor node: common questions

What microcontroller does the Esp32c3-sensor node use?

The Esp32c3-sensor node is built around the ESP32-C3-WROOM-02, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Esp32c3-sensor node PCB?

The Esp32c3-sensor node measures 50 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Esp32c3-sensor node?

24 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Esp32c3-sensor node design files?

From the Alexden28/esp32c3-sensor-node-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Esp32c3-sensor node design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Alexden28 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Esp32c3-sensor node without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
