About the Walkman in-2026 PCB
Walkman in-2026 is an open source ESP32 PCB design by AnomaliScript, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 92 × 59 mm, with 22 components from 13 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 6 switches, 3 ICs, 2 transistors, 1 connector and 1 jumper.
It belongs with the audio, displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.
From the project
As a part of Hack Club's "Fallout" challenge, I attempt to build a replica of Makoto's walkman (from Persona 3) using KiCad, Onshape, and hopes and dreams.
This Walkman composes of many capacitors, resistors, an Audio Jack, a microSD card socket, LCD display, four buttons, an on/off switch, and most importantly, a XIAO-ESP3-S3 to make it all work! Most, if not all of these components are THT, or "through-hole technology", meaning that the components have pins that go through holes in the PCB, making them easier to soldier, and that's why I chose THT components (with the exceptino of the microSD card reader), because I'm not a soldering expert (yet).

Walkman in-2026: common questions
What microcontroller does the Walkman in-2026 use?
The Walkman in-2026 is built around the XIAO-ESP32-S3-DIP, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Walkman in-2026 PCB?
The Walkman in-2026 measures 92 × 59 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Walkman in-2026?
22 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Walkman in-2026 design files?
From the AnomaliScript/Walkman-in-2026 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Walkman in-2026 design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which AnomaliScript chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the Walkman in-2026 without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
