About the ESP01 redesign PCB
ESP01 redesign is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Ashwini17p, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 40 × 10 mm, with 19 components from 14 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP8266EX, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the W25Q32JVSS. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 6 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 crystal, 1 connector and 1 diode.
It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.
From the project
A complete PCB redesign of the ESP-01 Wi-Fi Module using KiCad 9, following PCB layout practices, RF design guidelines, and compact embedded hardware design principles.
A complete PCB redesign of the ESP-01 Wi-Fi Module using KiCad 9, following PCB layout practices, RF design guidelines, and compact embedded hardware design principles.
This project recreates the hardware of the ESP-01 module from scratch by designing the complete schematic and PCB layout.
The objective was to understand how commercial Wi-Fi modules are designed, improve PCB design skills, and gain hands-on experience with RF-aware layout techniques.

ESP01 redesign: common questions
What microcontroller does the ESP01 redesign use?
The ESP01 redesign is built around the ESP8266EX, from the ESP8266 family.
How big is the ESP01 redesign PCB?
The ESP01 redesign measures 40 × 10 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the ESP01 redesign?
19 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the ESP01 redesign design files?
From the Ashwini17p/ESP-01-Redesign repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the ESP01 redesign design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Ashwini17p. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the ESP01 redesign without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
