About the Wand PCB

Wand is an open source STM32 PCB design by ayuusweetfish, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 63.2 × 23.9 mm, with 65 components from 50 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G030F6Px, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the SPX3819M5-L-3-3, STM32L011F4Ux, BMI270, MMC5603NJ and nRF24L01P. By type, the board carries 23 capacitors, 15 resistors, 7 ICs, 6 connectors, 3 diodes and 3 inductors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

A pendulum as a hands-on musical interface for all · NIME 2024 Short Paper

Malletwand is a handheld controller device in the form of a pendulum (a handle with a swinging bob), which can act as an input interface to the timing of musical playback.

We present this at NIME 2024 as a short paper (PDF; video to-be-updated) in paper session 10, on Friday, 6 Sep.

The following directories contain all the files for design and implementation (hardware, firmware, and mechanical). - wand/: the handheld controller (the "Wand"). - Hardware is a single PCB; firmware for the two controllers are in subdirectories fw/ (the main one) and fwbob/ (the small one in the bob/ball)…

Wand: common questions

What microcontroller does the Wand use?

The Wand is built around the STM32G030F6Px, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Wand PCB?

The Wand measures 63.2 × 23.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Wand?

65 components, from 50 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Wand design files?

From the ayuusweetfish/Malletwand repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Wand design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which ayuusweetfish chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Wand without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
