About the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 PCB

OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Bugatsec, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 86.1 × 121.7 mm, with 32 components from 6 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the PCF8574AP and 74HC595. By type, the board carries 11 resistors, 9 switches, 9 diodes and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 is a DIY 9-key macro pad prototype inspired by the Elgato Stream Deck, built around the Seeed XIAO RP2040.

OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 is an early hardware prototype of a DIY macro pad inspired by the Elgato Stream Deck. This project represents my first-ever hardware design, created as a learning experiment using KiCad with no prior background in electronics or PCB design.

The goal of this project was to explore the fundamentals of hardware design, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and basic I/O expansion using a microcontroller.

OpenDeck-RP2040-v0: common questions

What microcontroller does the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 use?

The OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 PCB?

The OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 measures 86.1 × 121.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0?

32 components, from 6 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 design files?

From the Bugatsec/OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Bugatsec chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the OpenDeck-RP2040-v0 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
