About the C128board PCB

C128board is an open source FPGA PCB design by c0pperdragon, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 24.8 × 62.2 mm, with 12 components from 8 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the 10M02SCE144, from the FPGA family. Other key parts include the VIC-IIe, LVC257 and LVC245. By type, the board carries 5 ICs, 5 capacitors, 1 connector and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

FPGA board to create a component video signal for vintage computers.

This is an adapater to be plugged between the VIC-IIe and its socket in a Commodore 128. Using this the, C64 Video Enchancement Board should in theory be able to work for the 40 columns mode display of the C128.

Use the provided gerber files (gerber.zip) to have a the PCB manufactured. Use the provided bill of material (c218adapter_bom.ods) to order the necessary parts and solder everything according to the silk-screen placement markings. Be careful to get the orientation of the various ICs right. Pin 1 is always marked specifically.

C128board: common questions

What microcontroller does the C128board use?

The C128board is built around the 10M02SCE144, from the FPGA family.

How big is the C128board PCB?

The C128board measures 24.8 × 62.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the C128board?

12 components, from 8 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the C128board design files?

From the c0pperdragon/A-VideoBoard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the C128board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which c0pperdragon chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the C128board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug FPGA firmware against it before you order a PCB.
