About the Bidirectional tester PCB

Bidirectional tester is an open source RISC-V PCB design by c3am, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 68 × 60 mm, with 70 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CH32V003FxUx, from the RISC-V family. Other key parts include the ADS1115IDGS, INA181, REF3020, IR2101 and AMS1117-5.0. By type, the board carries 21 capacitors, 18 resistors, 10 ICs, 6 connectors, 4 transistors and 4 switches.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

A low cost single cell battery capacity tester based on using the ch32v003.

- ADS 1115 for current and voltage sensing - ina181a2 + ref2020(2V Vref) for current sense amplification - ir2101 low+high side mosfet drivers - ceramic capacitors only - the two bidirectional buck-/boost-converters each have 1uH SMD inductors, 200uF on the cell and 66uF capacitance on the ~12V battery side - 0.9" i2c oled screen

Bidirectional tester: common questions

What microcontroller does the Bidirectional tester use?

The Bidirectional tester is built around the CH32V003FxUx, from the RISC-V family.

How big is the Bidirectional tester PCB?

The Bidirectional tester measures 68 × 60 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Bidirectional tester?

70 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Bidirectional tester design files?

From the c3am/capacitest repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Bidirectional tester design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with c3am. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Bidirectional tester without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RISC-V firmware against it before you order a PCB.
