About the Rana-Moth-WASD PCB

Rana-Moth-WASD is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by camrentm, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 104 × 118.3 mm, with 35 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the XC6206, X05A26H12G and W25Q128JVS. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 8 resistors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

My version of the Rana Moth, originally designed by Rana Labs.

WASD version of Rana Labs' Moth, a foldable leverless controller.

I printed the entire shell and hinges in Bambu Lab Matte PLA (any PLA should work, though build quality feel may vary).

- Mainboard: RP2040 integrated directly onto the left custom PCB. The right side connects via ribbon cable. - Switches: Any Kailh Choc low-profile switch. Must be low-profile (standard height switches won't fit). - USB-C: QuRB) by Quark Works and Rana Labs, a USB-C breakout board with a ribbon cable port for solderless assembly. - Hardware: M2 and M3 screws only. You'll need ten M3 heat inserts for the…

Rana-Moth-WASD: common questions

What microcontroller does the Rana-Moth-WASD use?

The Rana-Moth-WASD is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Rana-Moth-WASD PCB?

The Rana-Moth-WASD measures 104 × 118.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the Rana-Moth-WASD?

35 components, from 20 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Rana-Moth-WASD design files?

From the camrentm/Rana-Moth-WASD repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Rana-Moth-WASD design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which camrentm chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Rana-Moth-WASD without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
