About the Mechanizer PCB

Mechanizer is an open source ESP32 PCB design by chinh4, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 151.2 × 125.4 mm, with 132 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-HALF-HOLE-23P, from the ESP32 family. By type, the board carries 58 switches, 54 diodes, 6 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

This is an ortholinear, split keyboard with wireless functionality and a display with a theme based on the song Mesmerizer by 32ki. I designed this keyboard to improve on issues I had with my previous ortholinear keyboard design, the blahajergo.

Mechanizer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mechanizer use?

The Mechanizer is built around the XIAO-HALF-HOLE-23P, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Mechanizer PCB?

The Mechanizer measures 151.2 × 125.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mechanizer?

132 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mechanizer design files?

From the chinh4/mechanizer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mechanizer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with chinh4. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Mechanizer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
