About the ECE-445L-final project PCB

ECE-445L-final project is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by collebrusco, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 139.5 × 62.7 mm, with 50 components from 35 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP8266-01/ESP-01, from the ESP8266 family. Other key parts include the TM4C123GH6PMIR and LM2937XT. By type, the board carries 19 capacitors, 10 resistors, 7 diodes, 4 connectors, 3 ICs and 3 test points.

RC Dragsters!

Remote-controlled drag racing! Players use two controllers to drive the dragsters. The controllers have a throttle and a gear shifter, and the players must time their gear shifts for the optimal power output. The controller software simulates engine operation and the resulting power output. Players are penalized for red-lining, shifting too early or too late. The better driver wins!

The KiCad project lives in the collebrusco/ECE-445L-final-project repository on GitHub; these links point at the commit this page was built from.

ECE-445L-final project: common questions

What microcontroller does the ECE-445L-final project use?

The ECE-445L-final project is built around the ESP8266-01/ESP-01, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the ECE-445L-final project PCB?

The ECE-445L-final project measures 139.5 × 62.7 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ECE-445L-final project?

50 components, from 35 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ECE-445L-final project design files?

From the collebrusco/ECE-445L-final-project repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ECE-445L-final project design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with collebrusco. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ECE-445L-final project without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
