About the ControlBoard PCB

ControlBoard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ConfusedHello, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 76 × 76 mm, with 27 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the LMR51430 and MCP4728. By type, the board carries 6 capacitors, 5 switches, 5 diodes, 5 resistors, 3 ICs and 2 connectors.

DIY Film Light for Videography!

Ever wanted a videography light but died when seeing the insane prices? Me too! This project involves a DIY, high-power RGBW film light built by @ConfusedHello and @Jayx2u for the Hack Club Highway to Hardware program!

We decided to design this project because as students, we honestly don't have the spare cash lying around for one, and we wanted a nice accent light for our planned upcoming videos. It utilises 36 current controlled RGBW LEDs running off a 48V supply and controlled with a Xiao RP2040!

ControlBoard: common questions

What microcontroller does the ControlBoard use?

The ControlBoard is built around the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the ControlBoard PCB?

The ControlBoard measures 76 × 76 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ControlBoard?

27 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ControlBoard design files?

From the ConfusedHello/Videography-Light repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ControlBoard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with ConfusedHello. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the ControlBoard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
