About the Mouse Project PCB

Mouse Project is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by cotty52, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 50 × 73 mm, with 28 components from 21 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the nrf52840, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the TPS62821DLCR and TTC_Gold_Encoder. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 4 switches, 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 1 connector and 1 inductor.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, sensors and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom mouse using PMW3389 sensor and nRF52840 microcontroller

This project contains software and hardware designs for a custom wireless mouse. This is an initial prototype intended for me to learn about hardware design and embedded software development. I combined hardware and software files into one repository for easier management. As of 2026-04-21, the design supports basic mouse functionality, including movement, button presses, and scrolling, and is powered by a 3.7V Li-ion battery, rechargeable via USB-C.

Mouse Project: common questions

What microcontroller does the Mouse Project use?

The Mouse Project is built around the nrf52840, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Mouse Project PCB?

The Mouse Project measures 50 × 73 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Mouse Project?

28 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Mouse Project design files?

From the cotty52/Mouse repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Mouse Project design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with cotty52. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Mouse Project without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
