About the Rover cam hat
Rover cam hat is an open source ESP32 PCB design by dark-Phoenix2077, published on GitHub. It is a 4-layer board measuring 61.1 × 43 mm, with 39 components from 19 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the ESP32-S3, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the AMS1117-3.3 and AMS1117-1.8. By type, the board carries 17 capacitors, 10 resistors, 3 ICs, 3 connectors, 3 switches and 3 diodes.
It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.
From the project
a custom smart rover with vision-assisted autonomous navigation and object tracking, built around a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and two fully custom PCB HATs.
(Just to be clear, I will be paying for this project myself)
The motor/PD PCB - a tiny little PCB that takes in a battery and 3 motors, and controls them via an ATmega chip, accepting high-level commands from the pi via gpio. it also pushes power to the pi from its own battery:
The vision PCB - a board with an esp32 and a pi camera, as well as usb c and gpio. it communicates mainly via usb c providing a usb camera feed to the pi (translated via the esp32), and uses the gpio for util functions. it has an adressable button (likelly will use for debugging/emergency shutdown purposes) and two…

Rover cam hat: common questions
What microcontroller does the Rover cam hat use?
The Rover cam hat is built around the ESP32-S3, from the ESP32 family.
How big is the Rover cam hat?
The Rover cam hat measures 61.1 × 43 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the Rover cam hat?
39 components, from 19 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the Rover cam hat design files?
From the dark-Phoenix2077/wall-e repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the Rover cam hat design in my own project?
The repository has no license, so all rights stay with dark-Phoenix2077. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.
Can I test firmware for the Rover cam hat without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
