Simple ESP8266-based and WLED-powered LED controller board

SimpleWLED8266 is a simple, ESP8266-based, and WLED-powered LED controller board, supporting both analog and digital LED strips. The board features AO3400 mosfets to drive the analog LEDs and uses the 74AHCT125 buffer as a level-shifter for the digital LEDs which require 5V.

The board is very simple to solder since it only features a few parts and the smallest SMD part is of the size 0805. It does not use a switching regulator, reducing complexity and noise, but also decreasing the efficiency of the board. Make sure to pick 1117 regulators that support input voltages >12V! SimpleWLED8266: common questions

What microcontroller does the SimpleWLED8266 use?

The SimpleWLED8266 is built around the ESP-12F, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the SimpleWLED8266 PCB?

The SimpleWLED8266 measures 70 × 40 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the SimpleWLED8266?

31 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SimpleWLED8266 design files?

From the DavidoTek/SimpleWLED8266 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SimpleWLED8266 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with DavidoTek. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the SimpleWLED8266 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
