About the Tactile r PCB

Tactile r is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by dazed-16, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 133.5 × 120.5 mm, with 47 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the 74HC595, BQ29700DSET and CSD83325L. By type, the board carries 19 switches, 18 diodes, 5 ICs, 3 connectors and 2 resistors.

It belongs with the keyboards and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

A modular clean custom split keyboard

Tactile is a custom split mechanical keyboard for programming, live coding and CAD, with a thumb touchpad for pointer control.

The aim is a keyboard that feels personal and comfortable during long desk sessions. A split layout lets each hand rest at its own angle, while thumb controls reduce trips between the keyboard and mouse. Tactile switches give clear feedback, and printed keycaps and a case leave room for customization.

Tactile r: common questions

What microcontroller does the Tactile r use?

The Tactile r is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Tactile r PCB?

The Tactile r measures 133.5 × 120.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tactile r?

47 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tactile r design files?

From the dazed-16/Tactile repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tactile r design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with dazed-16. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Tactile r without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
