Its main chip is the C2838502, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the C347222, C93216 and C16581. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 9 capacitors, 4 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, sensors and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

Open-source 3-IMU kinematic data logger — wireless BLE pods for multi-segment trunk motion capture

An open-source hardware and software platform for capturing multi-segment trunk orientation data using three wireless 9-DOF IMU pods over Bluetooth Low Energy.

Three small wireless pods, each containing an ESP32-C3 microcontroller and a BNO055 9-axis IMU, stream orientation data at 50 Hz over BLE to a browser-based web application. The app computes inter-segment angles in real time and logs session data for export.

Open kinematic array: common questions

What microcontroller does the Open kinematic array use?

The Open kinematic array is built around the C2838502, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Open kinematic array PCB?

The Open kinematic array measures 22 × 28 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Open kinematic array?

33 components, from 21 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Open kinematic array design files?

From the deanarvan/open-kinematic-array repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Open kinematic array design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which deanarvan chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Open kinematic array without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
