About the Fishping PCB

Fishping is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by DjukicAleksej, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 44.2 × 44.2 mm, with 10 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the LIS3DH. By type, the board carries 3 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 capacitors, 1 connector, 1 switch and 1 diode.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

FishPing is a smart fishing float made by me, Aleksej, a 17 year old from Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a custom hardware project with a 3D printed float body, a custom PCB, a Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840, and a LIS3DH accelerometer that can detect when a fish pulls on the float.

The idea is simple: sometimes when you are fishing you look away for a second, talk to someone, check your phone, or just miss a small bite. FishPing watches the movement of the float and sends a BLE alert to your phone, where a small webpage shows the bite count, the time between bites, battery info, and an alarm.

Fishping: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fishping use?

The Fishping is built around the XIAO-nRF52840-SMD, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Fishping PCB?

The Fishping measures 44.2 × 44.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fishping?

10 components, from 9 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fishping design files?

From the DjukicAleksej/fishping repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fishping design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which DjukicAleksej chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fishping without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
