About the DODGECLOCK PCB

DODGECLOCK is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by ebertmx, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 49.3 × 40 mm, with 72 components from 41 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the NRF52832-QFXX, from the Nordic nRF family. Other key parts include the BQ24232RGTR, MIC5528-3.3YMT, MCP65R41, IRF7319TRPBF and SWRU120B. By type, the board carries 28 resistors, 23 capacitors, 5 ICs, 5 diodes, 3 transistors and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the iot & wireless, displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

A shot clock system for competitve dodgeball. The system consists of two devices: display and controller.

A shot clock system for competitve dodgeball. The system consists of two devices: display and controller.

A second iteration board is in progress to improve performance and fix the power delivery problems.

The controller devices is held by the ref and used to control the shot clock count.

The device acts as a peripheral/server. It accepts secure connections and provide clock and state information. This device is battery powered; thus, it tries to mimize power at all times. The device prioritizes the built in LCD and user controls over the BLE connection; consequently, the ref always knows…

DODGECLOCK: common questions

What microcontroller does the DODGECLOCK use?

The DODGECLOCK is built around the NRF52832-QFXX, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the DODGECLOCK PCB?

The DODGECLOCK measures 49.3 × 40 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DODGECLOCK?

72 components, from 41 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DODGECLOCK design files?

From the ebertmx/DODGECLOCK repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DODGECLOCK design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ebertmx chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the DODGECLOCK without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
