About the Dmx remote PCB

Dmx remote is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by edwindertien, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 67 × 52 mm, with 48 components from 20 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Module_RaspberryPi_PicoW_Combined, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the 74LVC2G241. By type, the board carries 22 connectors, 16 resistors, 6 capacitors, 1 IC, 1 module and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A multi-vehicle RC transmitter built on the Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040) using the earlephilhower Arduino core. Communicates over ELRS 4.x via CRSF at 420000 baud, with bidirectional telemetry. One codebase covers all vehicles — select the target in config.h.

1 kΩ resistor between GP0 and GP1 — required for telemetry reception. The ELRS module sends telemetry frames back during the inter-packet gap (~3ms at 333Hz). The resistor creates a half-duplex loopback so the RP2040 RX pin sees these frames. Without it, RSSI and LQ are never received and the OLED signal bars always show empty.

Dmx remote: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dmx remote use?

The Dmx remote is built around the Module_RaspberryPi_PicoW_Combined, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Dmx remote PCB?

The Dmx remote measures 67 × 52 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dmx remote?

48 components, from 20 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dmx remote design files?

From the edwindertien/animatronics repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dmx remote design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with edwindertien. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Dmx remote without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
