From the project

Five KiCad 10 boards (4- and 6-layer): ESP32-S3 industrial gateway, USB-C PD bench supply, RP2040 logic analyzer, FOC motor controller, iCE40 FPGA board. KiCad projects, gerbers, BOM, STEP, renders and design-process videos.

A 12-24 V field-oriented-control BLDC motor controller: STM32G431, three IR2104 half bridges, MT6701 encoder, CAN FD.

Not fabricated, assembled or powered. Every number on this page is measured by KiCad 10 on the files in this folder; the full measurements are in report.json.

Spinner is a field-oriented-control (FOC) controller for a three-phase BLDC motor on a 12-24 V bus. An STM32G431 drives three IR2104 half bridges and six 60 V MOSFETs, reads low-side shunts through its own PGAs, and has an MT6701 magnetic encoder and CAN FD on the board. It was designed with the HeyPCB method on KiCad…

Spinner: common questions

What microcontroller does the Spinner use?

The Spinner is built around the STM32G431KBT6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Spinner PCB?

The Spinner measures 84 × 66 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Spinner?

83 components, from 36 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Spinner design files?

From the enkhbold470/kicad-projects repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Spinner design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which enkhbold470 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Spinner without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
