About the EnvOpenClock PCB

EnvOpenClock is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Envious-Data, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 90 × 65.2 mm, with 326 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the SI7021-A20, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the IS31FL3730-QFLS2-TR and DS3231M. By type, the board carries 280 diodes, 12 resistors, 10 capacitors, 8 LEDs, 6 ICs and 6 switches.

It belongs with the displays & leds and power & battery designs in this gallery.

A fancy lil clock using LTP-305

There are 4 buttons and a switch, The switch is meant for Summer time adjustment and the 4 buttons are for setting the time or alarm.

We'd like to change this to have easier to press buttons, a larger battery holder, the speaker may not get re-implemented, we'll see when we decide to move toward finalizing the design and preparing for order. Keep in mind that TIL305s have been discontinued for a long time and LTP305s are now discontinued and hard to get so we'll substitute our own "DIY305" which is a dip14 sized PCB with standard headers and 0402 leds but we have made a 0201 version but may…

EnvOpenClock: common questions

What microcontroller does the EnvOpenClock use?

The EnvOpenClock is built around the SI7021-A20, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the EnvOpenClock PCB?

The EnvOpenClock measures 90 × 65.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the EnvOpenClock?

326 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the EnvOpenClock design files?

From the Envious-Data/EnvOpenClock repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the EnvOpenClock design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Envious-Data chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the EnvOpenClock without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
